The Informed Consent Action Network, has had another small victory in its fight against medical misinformation - this time against the New York State Department of Health, which had put up a Facebook post stating that “no serious side effects related to the vaccines have been reported". This is simply not true.

In the clinical trials in the US, trial investigators found serious adverse events to be related to both the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines. And, since the vaccines were given emergency use authorisation and vaccination of the general population began in December 2020, the CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) has received more than 3,000 reports** of serious adverse events (data up to 12th February 2021).

In a VAERS data search on 26th March, a total of 1,594 deaths and 695 permanent disabilities had been reported.

ICAN stated:

"The NYS Health Commissioner and the Governor should be aware of the above information safety information. They nonetheless made the false claim that there are no serious side effects related to the COVID-19 vaccines when the data clearly shows otherwise. Even worse, the two COVID-19 vaccines are still undergoing clinical trials, so the data on serious adverse events is still being collected."

And so, on February 19, 2021, ICAN’s attorneys sent a letter to the NYS Health Commissioner and Governor Cuomo informing them that the post contained false information regarding the COVID-19 vaccine and demanding that the false claim and related advert be removed - which they did!

So, every time you see authorities and the media putting out false and misleading information about these experimental vaccines - all of which are still in their trial phases - call them on it. And, remember, none of the vaccines are designed to stop you getting infected or transmitting the virus, they're only designed to reduce the symptoms. They're vaccinating you against Covid-19 NOT SARS-CoV-2.

**The percentage of adverse events following vaccination that are actually reported to VAERS varies massively. Analysis of reporting prior to Covid-19 showed VAERS captured:

  • 12% of cases after the 2012-13 inactivated seasonal influenza vaccine

  • Between 13% and 76% of cases after seven different anaphylaxix vaccines,

  • 25% of cases after the MMR vaccine

In the UK, the government estimates only around 10% of adverse events are reported to the Yellow Card scheme. Data up to 14th March shows that, out of 25.9m vaccines given:

116,632 Yellow Card reports have been made, listing 404,525 separate reactions, including 594 deaths.
